MallsHotel Zone shopping centers are very well covered in airport giveaway guides such as Cancun Tips and they are well-worth exploring. The prices are usually higher than downtown, but not always as much as you might think and the quality and quantity of the selection is truly imposing. The following malls and markets are not covered in the usual guides. They are lots of fun and even though they don't look very quaint this is where you'll find the real Mexico in Cancun, without the tourist varnish and plastic. Plaza 2000Crucero, Av. Tulum & López-Portillo. Reasonable Your standard serviceable mallInexpensive footwear and cheap T-shirts and shorts, toys, hair ornaments, and a decent bakery. Good bolillos -- French rolls, bo-LEE-ohs -- if you arrive at midday and late afternoon. Plaza BonitaBehind Post Office, next to Mercado 28. Good to a little expensive. Cute shops and eating places in Yuppie mallIf all Cancun looked more like Plaza Bonita, we might believe we were actually in Mexico. Good place for gift shopping, with some very high-quality merchandise at local prices. The closest thing to a Yuppie consumer hang-out in Cancun.
