A Literary Love Affair

Laundromats

Kayme

Downtown, 3 blocks from Post Office, Tankah No. 50. $3.50 for 6.6 lb.., dried and folded. $1.66 per load, do-it- yourself wash and dry. 33 for plastic bag.

Do-it-yourself laundromat plus next-day service.

Bring in your clothing and wash it yourself or hand it over to the employees for servicio de encargo. They will count each item and give you a detailed receipt and your laundry will be ready the following day. Hot water is the most important thing to know about Kayme. Most laundromats here use cold water. Jammed on quincena --the first and sixteenth of every month -- pay-day. $1.50 per self-service load on Wednesdays.

Alborada

Downtown, Nader behind San Francisco de Asis supermarket. Somewhat more expensive than Kayme.

Convenient location, fast service laundromat

Nice place to do your own laundry. Pleasant outside seating with some good snack spots nearby. Friendly help. Ask for servicio especial if you're leaving your laundry for them to do. This will cost you a little more but will be worth it.

Alborada is preferable to Kayme for tourists because of the location and more upbeat help, but Kayme routinely does an excellent job on getting clothes clean.

Mini-Lavanderia Green 16

Hotel Zone, Golf Club area, Paseo Pok-Ta-Pok, in Green 16 condominium complex.

Service-only laundromat

This is where we get our clothes done when the weather is so rainy we can't hang them out to dry. 85¢ a kilo, washed, dried and folded.
