ApartmentsIf you'd like to extend your visit or come back, you can expect to spend about $400 a month for a decent furnished place in downtown Cancun and upwards of $700 in the Hotel Zone. As anywhere, prices will vary depending upon amenities and location. Water service is quite erratic in most sections downtown. A really comfortable beach front condominium will run at least $1,000 a month or more. Apartments are advertised in the principal local daily newspapers, Novedades de Quintana Roo,La Crónica, Por Esto! and Voz del Caribe. If you're lucky enough to make contact with the American owner of a condominium, you will usually be able to make an excellent deal, especially for a six-month or longer lease. The easiest areas in which to find Hotel Zone apartments are the neighborhoods bordering the lagoon side of the Golf Course. Expect to pay an additional $100 a month or so for electricity in an air conditioned apartment. Never sign a contract in Spanish without consulting a lawyer or someone more expert than yourself, as you might be agreeing to expose yourself to arrest if you don't pay your rent.
